Natural makeup is a term used to describe makeup that mimics tones and hues already within one’s complexion. A complexion consists of many hues and undertones. The ultimate goal of applying natural makeup is to create harmony with what nature has provided. Often times, natural makeup is confused with no makeup. No makeup just implies a lack of effort and time; natural makeup is actually, just the opposite. It is carefully selected and applied to enhance features so that they appear to have been a genetic gift of beauty. This is not to suggest that natural makeup means spending an outstanding amount of time applying and outstanding amount of makeup. It just means spending quality time applying makeup strategically. Let me explain. To Begin Natural Makeup1. Always begin with a cleansed, toned, and moisturized face and eye area. Being of mature skin, I use an alpha hydroxy serum for gentle exfoliation and promotion of smoother skin. The serum will help rid the skin of the dull, ashy appearance and improve the color of the skin by getting rid of dead skin cells on the layer of the skin.2. When applying natural makeup, I like to look back to photographs of my youthful days to remember the colors that lit up my face as a child. I look at the cheeks and lips to get an idea of pink or peach. Over the years, hair color changes, skin changes, and we no longer see the colors that nature once gave to us. This is a once and done deal. Once you look at your photograph and decide which colors were natural to your skin, the rest is easy.Applying Natural Makeup1. Next, you may still need to correct under eye circles. No matter how natural you want to be, if you have bags and circles, you just look tired!2. Not everyone needs to wear foundation. A tinted moisturizer is a wonderful trick to natural makeup. You are adding well-deserved nourishment to the skin with an added benefit; a tint of color. You may also opt for applying a bit of foundation to only the parts that show redness to even out the complexion. The truly blessed are those that need just a great moisturizer to add a healthy glow. The end result of natural makeup foundation is to return the skin to the youthful glow. This is why heavy foundations and matte finishes are seldom used in natural makeup.3. As a child, my cheeks were always rosy. This is the inspiration for natural makeup. Use a rouge that is similar to those pictures. If you cannot tell due to the quality of picture or the lack of color try this easy trick: gently pinch your cheeks. Remember: Gently. Black and blue is not in the natural color scheme. A gentle pinch will give you insight to your skin’s natural blush shade. Apply the rouge to the apples of your cheeks. I sometimes sweep a bronzer or rouge to the areas of my face where the sun would kiss. Once again, this gives a natural glow. Just be careful not to apply too much. You don’t want to look sunburned.4. Natural eye makeup is simple. Keep to neutral shades. Colors such as taupe, brown, peach, and mauve give freshness to the eyes without overpowering the skin. These neutral colors will allow your natural features to shine by complementing the iris. When applying natural makeup, I keep the color families for eyes, cheeks, and lips the same. Use your natural blush as the guide for choosing colors. Since I have naturally rosy cheeks and pink lips, I use a light mauve shadow, a rose blush, and clear gloss with a rose tint. The colors don’t compete and are not the focus of my face; instead, the dewy glow is the focus.5. A light powder liner can be applied to make the lashes appear thicker as in our younger days. You may see that liner is not necessary.6. Curl the eyelashes and apply a brown or clear mascara to add length. Brown is a natural color that won’t add drama, but only lengthen and fill in areas that may be sparse.7. Use a lipstick that is creamy and close to your natural lip tone. Apply a dab of gloss to the center of the lips to emphasize fullness. In place of a creamy lipstick, try a tinted gloss. Tinted glosses are excellent for adding a pinch of color and sheen all in one.Is Natural Makeup Natural?Yes, yes, yes. Natural makeup is fresh and dewy. It lets the world see your beauty. Is it an oxymoron? That might be for you to decide, I myself, love it.http://www.makeup-artist-world.com

Eye Makeup

Sexy, appealing eyes are nothing new to women. We have known for thousands of years how to attract and allure using the power of our eyes. Just look at the ancient Egyptians. Cleopatra certainly knew what she was doing using kohl to dramatically line her eyes.Sexy eyes are not about shockingly bright colors; rather sexy eyes are about creating the perfect almond shaped eye. Women in the early 1900s knew that large, almond shaped eyes were appealing. Once again, we come full circle to the Egyptians and their heavily lined almond shape. So how do we achieve a sexy eye without looking like a raccoon or a Halloween character? How to Apply Sexy Eye Makeup1. Begin applying sexy eye makeup with a clean and moisturized face. It is important for the makeup to not mix with oils and dirt from the skin. This could make the makeup look messy and just plain bad.2. Keep the colors neutral when applying sexy eye makeup. Choose pallets in brown, charcoal, black, or gray. Bright colors may make the eyes appear smaller. Choose a vanilla tone to highlight. Vanilla works well on most women. White can be harsh for this effect.3. Eyeliner will create the illusion of bigger, more seductive eyes. Eyeliner can also help to correct eye shape giving the eyes the desired almond shape which is characteristic of sexy eyes. Begin by lining the top lash line from the inner corner and extending the line slightly past the edge. Use a soft pencil or powder so that the line is not harsh. Harsh lines might make you look angry, not sexy. You can go over the line using an angled brush to create a smoother finish and fan out the edges so that the line is not too harsh.4. Line the bottom outer third of the lower lid keeping close to the lash line and extend slightly past the edge.5. Remember that we are going for an almond shape. Judge the line to see that it creates the shape of an almond. You may need to make the line thicker depending upon the shape of your eye. A perfectly shaped eye will immediately give the illusion of sexiness. If you look at fashion models in magazines, even the minimalist has carefully shaped the eye for an almond look.6. For sexy eyes, we are going to open up the eyes to make them appear larger; therefore, we must gradually increase the color as we move toward the brow. Begin with dark shadow. If you line the eyes with brown, choose chocolate shadow. Apply color to the mobile eye making sure that the color intensity is darkest close to the lashes and outer third of the eye to create the desired almond shape of a sexy eye. The intensity should decrease as you move towards the crease.7. Check for the desired shape and that the color intensity is equal on both eyes.8. Apply shadow to the lower lid sweeping it towards the outer corner. Be sure to keep the intensity light or you may look like a raccoon. You can always increase the intensity if you desire. Concentration should b on the outer third.9. Fill in the inner corner of the eye and above the brow bone using vanilla to highlight and open the eyes. This will make the eyes appear even larger and finish the sexy eye makeup.10. Curl the lashes to further open the eyes and apply mascara to both top and bottom. Fan the lashes when applying the mascara to make the eyes appear sexy and large. Concentrate more mascara on the outer third of the lashes.http://www.makeup-artist-world.com

Makeup For Oily Skin

[Word Count: 798 words] [Viewed: 7 time(s)] [Don't forget to rate this article]

We can’t all be blessed with normal skin. Unfortunately, for many of us, oily skin is our struggle. On the positive side, those with oily skin have skin that doesn’t show the signs of aging as quickly as other skin types. So, when life gives you lemons, create lemon juice and water to apply on oily skin. Rinse with warm water.Oily skin can occur at different stages in your life; adolescence, pregnancy, and menopause. Hormones can play a role in oily skin. Oily skin is characterized by large pores, dullness, a grease-like appearance, and roughness. The sebaceous gland produces excess oil thus giving the skin the shine associated with oily skin. Washing the face several times a day can make the situation worse, causing the gland to produce even more oil. Choosing the right skin regimen and makeup for oily skin is not as difficult as it might seem.Identifying Your Skin TypeIt is important to know your skin type. Examine your face closely. Do you see large pores, flakes, or redness? Each can indicate a different skin type or be indicators of oily skin. Take a tissue to your face and blot. Did you absorb oil? If your self-examination reveals large pores and oil on the tissue, you could have oily skin. The redness can be from excessive washing or sensitive skin. I have combination skin. It is very oily with large pores in the t-zone and dry around my cheeks. If you are still unsure, consult a dermatologist or aesthetician.Taking Care of Oily SkinCaring for your skin now will provide benefits for the future. Your skin will thank you five years from now. Know how to take care of you skin, both inside and out. It is important to drink water so that the skin remains hydrated. Taking vitamins, especially vitamin B2 and B5 will also help your body. These vitamins can help the skin look more radiant and improve paleness.Products for Preparing Oily Skin for MakeupWhen cleansing, use an oil-based cleanser since it will help dissolve oil better. Do not use harsh cleaners that leave the skin feeling tight. This tightness will restrict oil flow and lead to clogged pores later. Also, massage the face when cleansing to avoid pushing dirt and oil into the pores. Scrubbing will clog the pores. Rinse with warm water to help dissolve oil. Use a mud or clay mask one or two times a week.Read labels. Look for products that are for oily skin. Avoid products that contain alcohol since alcohol dries the skin. Petroleum based products such as mineral oil contain too much oil and can further clog pores. Use astringents containing acetone. Acetone dissolves oil better. Moisturizers need to be oil-free. You may only need to moisturize certain areas such as around the eyes. Mature skin will need to moisturize the entire face.I find that applying cucumber juice before applying makeup helps my skin’s appearance. Witch-hazel will do the same. Both are excellent ways to create a more balanced ph for the skin. You may even want to spritz lavender water on your face several times a day. It is a good hydrator for oily skin as well as providing antiseptic properties.Makeup for Oily SkinRead labels. There are some items that should be avoided and some items that you should look for in makeup for oily skin. There are certain makeup companies that are known for their work in designing products for specific skin types. I recommend Clinique. It has a reputation for excellent care and products. I also like Jane Iredale Cosmetics. This is a mineral based line used by many dermatologists.Avoid1. Avoid products containing oil from petroleum. This includes mineral oil. Use oil-free makeup or makeup that is intended to benefit oily skin.2. Avoid makeup that contains alcohol. Alcohol will strip the skin of oil, which may cause the body to produce even more.3. Look for ingredients such as bismuth oxychloride and dimenthicone. Both can clog pores and may cause blemishes. These are commonly found in foundation or powder based products.Beneficial1. Find foundations that contain titanium dioxide, a naturally occurring sun protector.2. Makeup for oily skin should contain serecite to reduce the appearance of pores and help absorb oil.3. Kaolin clay added in foundation will help oil control.4. Zinc oxide used in makeup will act as an anti-inflammatory.A makeup artist will use products designed for a customer’s skin type in order to promote healthy skin. It is equally important for the makeup artist to become familiar with products and ingredients for specific skin care. Knowing how to take care of a customer’s skin will benefit the client and the makeup artist’s reputation.http://www.makeup-artist-world.com

How To Apply Eye Makeup

[Word Count: 817 words] [Viewed: 6 time(s)] [Don't forget to rate this article]

Makeup should emphasize beauty and highlight your best features, not become a mask for which to hide. It is the eyes, the windows to your heart and character that are seen first. Your eyes create a focal point for creativity, fun, and elegance. Therefore, when applying eye makeup, it is necessary to create balance and harmony to reveal your true beauty.Applying eye makeup can be a frightening concept if you are not equipped with the correct knowledge and equipment. Once you know the basics, you will find that applying eye makeup is fun. All you need is the right color, shadow brushes, an eye lining pencil, an eyelash curler, and mascara.First, it is important to know that your eyes are a great place to begin to express yourself. Adding color to the eyes will automatically draw attention to them. Because of this, when you apply shadow, choose colors that complement your skin tone and eye color. Use the iris as a guide in choosing your color scheme. You want to create a polished elegant look.Color Guide:Blue EyesTo emphasize blue eyes use gray, rose, mauve, purple, orange, peach, gold, or any shade of bronze. When selecting a shade of blue to go with the eyes follow the rule of opposites. (If the eye is dark blue, use sky blue; if the eye is icy blue, use darker blues, even indigo.)Green EyesTo emphasize green eyes use chestnut, royal purple, violet, plum, forest green, and brown. If the iris is a deep green, try using a darker eye shadow; if the iris is a pale green use a pale green eye shadow.Hazel EyesTo emphasize the green in hazel eyes use royal purple, rose, violet, and forest green. To make the eye more brown, use chestnut.Brown EyesTo emphasize brown eyes use copper, bronze, champagne, beige, forest green, gold, and other metallics. Using shades of green will complement brown eyes.Brown-Black EyesTo emphasize deep brown eyes use tones that are lighter and pearly to bounce more light. Try a sheer green. The secret to applying Eye MakeupWhen applying eye makeup, remember that a small amount goes a long way. It is best to start applying the shadow lightly, building up to intensity desired. Since you can alter the shape and look of your eyes using eye makeup, begin by tracing the brow bone with your finger or shadow tool to get a feel for the shape of your eye. It is important to note that you do no want to apply eye shadow above your brow bone; rather, you will be blending upward towards the brow bone. How to use a brush to apply your eye shadowsApply your shadow using a shadow brush in a medium size. The brush will give you more control. A larger eye shadow brush will give more coverage for the total eye. A smaller shadow brush will give a more defining line. Keep in mind that you will want to use a synthetic brush for creams and a natural hair brush for powder. Using these brushes for specific eye makeup will make clean-up easier.1. Begin applying the shadow to the mobile eye, making sure that the shadow covers evenly and is blended carefully in an upward movement. Remember to blend toward the brow bone. Keeping the brush moving in circular movements will help create an even blend of color. Shadow should be applied toward the lachrymal area, or inner corner, and blended.2. Apply the shadow on the opposite eye. Be sure to create equal looks. Uneven shadow will upset the balance and harmony.3. Apply the eyeliner to the top of the eye, close to the lashes. This will create thickness. You can also line the bottom lashes lightly for a more dramatic and defined look. Remember that when you apply loner, black is more commonly used for nighttime and brown or navy for daytime.4. For more emphasis, apply a pearly white or ivory in the inner corner of the eyes and above the brow bone to highlight the eyes. Blend carefully so that the shadow highlights and does not appear as a polka dot in the corner of the eye or a harsh line below the brow.5. Finish applying eye makeup with mascara. Curl the lashes to further open the eyes. Once again, when applying eye makeup, it is best to begin with a light coat of mascara on both top and bottom lashes. You can build intensity by applying another coat, depending on the look desired. Look up when applying mascara to the lashes.Critical factors to consider when applying eye make upRemember: Your goal is to emphasize your natural beauty and create harmony. 5 Minute Makeup

Beauty may only be skin deep, but beautiful skin makes a difference! Always begin your day treating the skin to a gentle cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. End each day with a well-deserved cleansing, toning, and nighttime moisturizing. Remember, you are worth the time. Take care of your skin.Tips for a Five Minute Makeup Routine1. Know your colors. What colors make you feel confident? What colors do you get compliments on? Are you warm or cool? Knowing what colors to wear will lessen the length of time it takes to get ready in the morning. Daytime makeup should be elegant, polished, and natural as seen in the model above.2. Concealer: A quality corrector will be subtle and almost imperceptible. Apply a corrector with a sponge and smudge downward, making the corrector fade away. This will help create a natural finish.3. Foundation: Your goal should be to use a foundation tone that will convert into an almost unnoticeable second skin. Always apply foundation in a direction called “combing the face.” This means you should divide the face in half. Apply the foundation downwards. Blending downwards will help to create a more natural finish by avoiding a line on the jaw. Apply a powder if necessary. Not all people need a powder. The real function of a powder is to give a matte, shine-free finish. Some people prefer a more dewy finish.4. Shadow: Choose natural-based shadows for daytime to keep professional and elegant. Using just two tones is a safe rule for daytime makeup. Remember that you don’t want your eyes to be too jarring. Use eyeliner in a discreet tone if necessary.5. Eyelashes: Groom and brush before applying mascara. You may want to curl the lashes to make the eyes appear more open. Once again, the less jarring, the more elegant you will look.6. Brows: Groom. Groom. Groom. Your brows create your mood. Check for unruly hairs. Tweeze strays if necessary.7. Rouge: Apply rouge remembering to use earth tones for a polished finish. Use your smile as a guide to create a natural blush zone.8. The lips: Choose a liner that agrees with your lipstick. Remember to create harmony in your makeup. Fuchsia lipstick may not be the best choice for a daytime look.http://www.makeup-artist-world.com

Choosing A Makeup Artist

By: Marcela Bailey

[Word Count: 372 words] [Viewed: 9 time(s)] [Don't forget to rate this article]

Getting ready for a big event can be daunting, especially if you will be photographed and the centre of attention. You know you want to hire a makeup artist to help you get ready. The process of finding a makeup artist you trust can be daunting, especially if you will be attending a big event where you will be the guest of honour, such as your wedding. How can you be sure to find a makeup artist whose service you will be happy with?A reputable company. If possible, contact a makeup artist through a company that has a great reputation. Find out how the company does their hiring. Do they typically hire people right out of school, or do they prefer to hire artists with more experience? If the event is high profile, you will need a company who specializes in creating makeup looks that will look great when photographed or on captured on film. Ask around to find the company with the best credentials and highest rate of success.Do a test run. Hire the makeup artist before the event a few weeks prior to do a test run. Wear the same outfit you will be wearing. If you like the look, you can hire them again to do the same thing on your big day. Explain to the artist that if the test run goes well, you will hire them for the event. Do this well ahead of time. If things don’t work out, you’ll want plenty of time to find another makeup artist.Do a background check. Once you’ve selected a makeup artist, ask them some information about their background. Where did they go to school? What experience do they have? Ask for references so you can talk to some clients. Try to find clients of theirs on your own, too. If you ask for references, you will probably get in touch with people who will focus in the positive. You want to know any negative information, if it exists.Once you find an artist you are comfortable with and who meets all your criteria, book them right away! Chances are, if they are as good as you suspect, their schedule should be pretty full.
